The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "The Higher Power or Divine Wisdom" and Ki which is "Life Force". Chi or Ki mean the same thing and are known by different names in different cultures. In sanskrit it is known as prana, but this is the energy that flows through our body.
Our bodies have energy centers that are the pathways for the flow of this energy. These pathways are strategically located in our bodies and each pathway is connected to different organs and different emotions. These pathways or energy centers are known as “Chakras”. There are many chakras that are all over our body, but there are seven main chakras that are located between the center of our body. In addition, there is an energy field around our bodies known as the aura.
While the “life force energy” is unseen, it is the energy that flows through all animate and inanimate things. Humans have a higher energetic vibration as compared to animals and plants have a lower energetic vibration than animals. Even stones and rocks have vibrations, however, this vibration is very low. Some places on earth have very high vibrations and are known to have miraculous healing potential. In humans, when the flow of this energy is high, the body and mind feel aligned and a person will feel happy and healthy, however, when this energy is depleted, the body is likely to become sick or diseased causing the individual to feel sad and depressed.
"Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is administered by channeling the unseen, divine, “life force energy” through these energy centers to raise the energetic vibration of an individual. Reiki is administered by strategically laying hands on diseased areas or an individual’s energy centers to promote health and reduce stress. Reiki is a simple, natural and non-invasive method of spiritual healing. When it is used in conjunction with medical and other therapeutic treatments, it is known to enhance the healing process and promote faster recovery. When received on a regular basis, Reiki promotes the natural healing processes, helping the recipient to restore physical health, mental clarity, and emotional wellness. It is a technique in which the practitioner harnesses a subset of energy frequencies and directs them into those who need them, generally concentrating on the area perceived as requiring healing.
